A confrontation between the police and some supporters of a candidate in the Council of State election re-run in the Ashanti Region has led to the arrest of one person.
The suspect, believed to be a supporter of former NDC Chairman in the region, Yaw Obimpeh, was among those who defied police orders to remain behind barricades set up at the venue.

Today’s election is a re-run of last week’s vote, which was abruptly halted after a group of thugs attacked Electoral Commission (EC) officials and destroyed several materials, including cast ballot papers.

In response, the police have reviewed security measures for the election re-run.
Vehicles are now restricted from entering the election venue, and about six police-manned barricades have been placed along the streets leading to the Prempeh Assembly Hall. The streets are also closed to traffic.

Hundreds of police personnel, along with crowd control equipment, have been deployed to the venue.
