Barcelona have been given permission for Dani Olmo and Pau Victor to play for the club after being allowed to provisionally register the pair.

It comes just days after the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and La Liga rejected a request for the players to be made available.

Barcelona appealed the decision – which had been made due to a ruling which states players with cancelled registrations cannot be re-registered with the same club twice in one season.

Olmo and Victor were signed by the Catalan club in the summer but they were only allowed to be registered for the first half of the season, due to Barcelona being unable to meet the league’s wage cap.

The club then missed the December 31 deadline to prove they were compliant with financial fair play rules, meaning the pair were left unregistered going into 2025.

However, on January 3, La Liga confirmed Barcelona had fulfilled necessary requirements so their spending cap was extended.

Spain’s National Sports Council (CSD) examined their appeal and decided Olmo and Victor should be allowed to play until there is a definitive ruling in Barcelona’s case against La Liga and the RFEF.

“This measure, which is provisional until the final resolution of the appeal lodged by the club and the aforementioned players, suspends the Agreement of the Monitoring Committee of the RFEF-LaLiga Coordination Agreement… and the cancellation of the sporting licences of the aforementioned players,” it said.

“Likewise, it maintains the validity of those licences until this appeal is finally resolved.

“The CSD considers that the non-adoption of this precautionary measure would cause serious economic and sporting damage to the club and, above all, to the players.

“This could also harm the interests of the Spanish national team, as well as the rest of the national competitions, including La Liga.”

The decision came too late for Olmo and Victor to feature in Barcelona’s Spanish Super Cup semi-final win against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, but they will be available for the final.

Speaking about being able to call on the duo once more, Flick said: “I’m really happy with it. I think the whole team, the players, of course, and Dani and Pau, they’re more than happy and also everyone in the club.

“It’s the right decision.”
