The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) declaration of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a fugitive, calling it “unreasonable.”
On Wednesday, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng declared Ofori-Atta a fugitive for failing to respond to potential corruption charges.
However, the NPP has rejected this declaration, accusing the OSP of making “sensational statements” that provoke unnecessary public emotions and drama.
During a press conference on Thursday, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B) questioned the basis for the OSP’s declaration.
“Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta can never be a fugitive. He is not a fugitive, and he will never be a fugitive. The OSP got it wrong,” Nana B stated.
He clarified that since assuming office in 2017, Ofori-Atta has always addressed any legal matters he was involved in and will continue to do so with the current case.
Nana B also suggested that the matter could have been resolved more appropriately through official communication, and assured the OSP that Mr. Ofori-Atta would return to assist with the investigation once he had completed his medical treatment in the USA.
