A few hours after the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) had announced that they were embarking on an indefinite strike action beginning from Wednesday, government says it has cleared all arrears owed the teachers’ body.
Government spokesperson, Mustapha Hamid has told host of Asempa FM’s late afternoon show, Eko Sii Sen Philip Osei Bonsu that “government cleared all NAGRAT arrears today”.
NAGRAT through its president, Eric Agbe-Carbonu, had declared in a press conference in Accra Wedneday that they were frustrated by the deliberate actions and inactions of government regarding salary arrears owed them since 2013.
According to NAGRAT, the arrears are in respect of salary adjustments, up-grading, and promotions as well as outstanding transfer grants.
According to him, no convincing reasons have been given by government for the non-payments.
It is not clear if the clearance will negate the actions of NAGRAT.
