Odike criticizes 2025 budget

Founder and leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addae Odike, has criticized the 2025 Economic Policy and Budget Statement, describing it as a tactic to win votes in the next elections.

Reacting to the budget presented in Parliament on March 11, Odike expressed concerns over the government’s failure to address the depreciation of the cedi against the dollar.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, he also questioned the continued payment of nursing trainee allowances, arguing that trainees should take student loans like other university students.

“They are making everything free so that the electorate will vote for them. If we say we want to reset the country, we need to put in measures that won’t harm the nation in the long run,” he said.

He further called for greater investment in mechanized agriculture to reduce food prices and urged the government to implement homegrown policies to boost internal revenue instead of relying on borrowing.

“If we heavily invest in the agricultural sector and create mechanized agriculture, all food prices will decrease. We need homegrown policies to generate internal revenue without borrowing,” he added.
