Some residents of Nsuokyire in the Aowin District of the Western Region have confronted illegal miners operating along the Tano River, setting fire to their settlements in protest.

The residents vowed to prevent mining activities along the river, fearing the destruction of their water source and the risk of flooding in their communities.

Their action follows a viral video by Green Gold TV, which exposed illegal mining activities in the Tano Numre Forest and the pollution of the Tano River.

Reports indicate that Chinese miners have taken control of parts of the riverbank in Samereboi and nearby villages, leading to direct contamination of the water.

Despite several reports by JoyNews on the issue, no significant action has been taken by authorities.
