Nsoatreman FC withdraws from Ghana Premier League after clash with Asante Kotoko

-

The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Joel Gyempeh, has confirmed that a club has officially withdrawn from the Ghana Premier League.

This decision follows a violent clash during a Matchday 19 fixture against Asante Kotoko at the Nana Kronmansah Park on Sunday afternoon.

Tragically, the incident resulted in the death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Pooley, a member of Asante Kotoko’s Supporters’ Communication Team. He was reportedly stabbed by unidentified assailants.

Speaking to MAX FM, Gyempeh revealed that the club has formally notified the GFA of its decision to pull out of the league.

In the wake of the incident, both clubs have pledged their full cooperation with authorities to aid in investigations.

In response, the GFA has indefinitely suspended Nsoatreman FC’s home venue, while Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Donkor has been appointed to lead the investigation.

The match concluded with a 1-0 victory for the defending FA Cup champions.
