Some angry members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on December 12 gathered in large numbers outside the National Police Training School to express their dissatisfaction with the recent recollation of the Nsawam-Adoagyiri election results.
The demonstration reflected growing frustration among NDC supporters, who voiced their concerns and demanded immediate attention from the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Police.
The protesters called for accountability and transparency, urging the swift resolution of their grievances.
In an interview on Channel One News, NDC members who had traveled from Nsawam-Adoagyiri stated their intention to spend the night at the police school, despite the EC’s directive to reconvene the next morning at 6 a.m.
This action underscored the escalating tensions surrounding the electoral process and the NDC’s commitment to their cause.
One NDC member remarked, “We will sleep here, we will not go home. We came here with some of our leaders.” Another added, “We know our candidate won the seat, but they are trying everything to change the results. If they do anything fishy, we will not accept the results. But if it’s transparent, we will accept them.”
Another supporter stated, “Annoh-Dompreh has lost the seat, we voted against him, so we don’t know why he’s still fighting.”
The recollation process had sparked a prior disagreement between the NPP and NDC. An agreement was reached to delay the recollation until December 13.
However, incumbent MP Annoh-Dompreh insisted that the results should be collated, stating he would remain at the Police Training School until the process was completed and the results were announced. He arrived at the school early on December 12, following an assurance from the EC that the results would be recollated.
As of now, the NPP has confirmed wins in three seats—Akwatia, Fanteakwa North, and Suhum—following a recount.
