The Staff Union of the National Service Authority (NSA), operating under the National Service Authority Staff Union (NASASU), has strongly condemned what it describes as attempts by political party foot soldiers to hijack the operations of the Authority.
In a press release dated April 11, 2025, and signed by NASASU Chairman Ayirebi Adubofour, the Union expressed deep concern over what it called increasing political interference in the Authority’s internal affairs, particularly in the areas of staff recruitment and transfers.
“We strongly condemn the practice of political party foot soldiers attempting to hijack the National Service Authority. This phenomenon undermines the principle of democracy, erodes public trust, and compromises the integrity of our institutions,” the statement said.
The Union emphasized that all recruitment and internal transfer processes at the NSA are guided by the National Service Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1119), the Public Services Commission Act, 1994 (Act 482), and Article 195 of the 1992 Constitution.
Addressing recent tensions in the Western Region, NASASU called on the youth to exercise restraint and allow the Authority’s Management to function within its legal framework.
The Union also urged the NSA Management to uphold the relevant laws and protect the Authority’s credibility from external pressures.
Additionally, NASASU appealed to the government to shield the NSA and other public institutions from undue political influence and urged political parties to refrain from using such bodies for partisan purposes.
The statement concluded with a strong call for all stakeholders to respect the Authority’s statutory responsibilities and uphold its independence and professionalism.
