The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia Constituency, Ernest Yaw Kumi, has criticized some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members for launching internal campaigns despite the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections.
He expressed disappointment that individuals are already vying for party positions when the committee investigating the loss has yet to release its findings.
Speaking to Adom News, Mr. Kumi emphasized that the NPP has set up a committee, chaired by former Speaker of Parliament and ex-MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, to probe the causes of the party’s electoral defeat.
He urged party members to suspend their internal campaigns until the committee’s report is made public to ensure informed strategies for rebuilding the party.
The Akwatia MP made these remarks while addressing the media at Akwatia in the Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region, following a thanksgiving service attended by NPP members at the Akwatia Presbyterian Church, Emmanuel Congregation.
He called on party faithful and sympathizers to set aside internal conflicts and work together to strengthen the NPP.
According to him, unity is crucial for the party’s revival, especially as he believes the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not presented better governance alternatives for Ghanaians.
