NPP’s constitution needs reforms – Oforikrom MP admits

Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, Dr. Emmanuel Marfo, has called for reforms to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) constitution, particularly regarding the selection of party leaders who can effectively engage with the President.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Burning Issues program with Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom, Dr. Marfo stressed the need to address the relationship between the party presidency and parliamentary leaders.

He suggested that stronger party leaders are required to hold the President accountable and ensure alignment with the party’s core mission.

“Our constitution must change, especially the section on selecting representatives capable of communicating with the President. Party executives need to give the President a wake-up call whenever he deviates from our core values,” Dr. Marfo asserted.

Reflecting on the party’s recent electoral defeat, he criticized the lack of cohesion between the leadership of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and President Akufo-Addo.

According to him, policy contradictions between the two created confusion among Ghanaians, contributing to the NPP’s loss.

He also faulted party executives for failing to influence the direction of government policies effectively.

Dr. Marfo emphasized that the party must learn from these setbacks and prioritize reforms to regain public trust and ensure future victories.
