The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye has vowed they will fiercely oppose any actions that seeks to compromise the independence of the Electoral Commission (EC).
The comment of Nana B as he is popularly called follows the National Democratic Congress (NDC) demonstration to mount pressure on the EC for a forensic audit of the voter register.
In an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Nana B emphasised that the EC is an independent body which does not need any interference.
Questioning the basis for the NDC’s call for a forensic audit, he stated that the NPP will resist any attempt to audit the voters’ register by a private organisation.
He reiterated that, these anomalies cited by the NDC were detected during the voter exhibition exercise which the EC has corrected accordingly.
Nana B therefore advised the NDC not to position themselves as superhumans who detected the errors by themselves.
“You identified the errors and the EC has said they have corrected them. They will surely bring the register for the election and can’t hide it.
“We’ll resist strongly, fiercely any attempt by anybody, any voice to introduce any private institution to audit the register. Why should have have the EC as an independent body and bring in another private institution?” he stated.
However, he stated if the EC decides to conduct its own audit through a committee, it will be welcomed.
