The Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Osman Masawudu, has called for a nationwide condemnation of the post-election violence.
Additionally, he has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare and other key stakeholders to take urgent and decisive steps to address the acts of hooliganism.
Speaking at a press conference, Alhaji Masawudu reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to peace and national stability, noting that the party graciously accepted the election results despite concerns raised during the electoral process.
He cautioned, however, that if acts of violence persist and provoke retaliatory actions from NPP supporters, it could jeopardize the nation’s unity and development.
He urged security agencies, civil society organizations, and all well-meaning Ghanaians to strongly condemn these acts allegedly being perpetuated by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Alhaji Masawudu specifically denounced the burning of homes, destruction of property, and the locking up of offices, stressing that these activities must be curtailed immediately to prevent further escalation.
He appealed for a collective effort to safeguard the peace and stability that Ghana is renowned for.
“This is a call to action for all stakeholders. Let us work together to ensure that our nation remains a beacon of peace and democracy,” he emphasized.
The NPP’s leadership has reiterated its dedication to peaceful coexistence and has urged all Ghanaians to prioritize dialogue and unity over division and violence.
