The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tatale Sanguli Constituency of the Northern Region has suspended 58 members for allegedly failing to support the party’s official candidate in the recent elections.
A letter signed by the Constituency Chairman and addressed to the party’s national and regional executives stated that the suspended members were accused of working against the party’s candidate, a violation of the NPP’s constitution.
One of the suspended members, Napare Prosper, a former constituency communication officer, has denied the allegations.
He has challenged the constituency chairman to provide evidence within 24 hours and is demanding a fair hearing.
“I have seen the suspension letter circulating on social media, alleging that I did not support the MP. I want to state clearly that I did not campaign against the candidate, nor have I breached the party’s constitution. They owe us a fair hearing,” he said.
The suspension has sparked calls from the affected members for due process to be followed in addressing the allegations.
