NPP poster generated more buzz than NDC’s – Edem speaks on his election prank

Rapper Edem has finally addressed his viral election poster stunt, clarifying that it was not a hoax but rather a social experiment to observe public reactions.

Speaking in an interview on Accra FM, he revealed that he and his team staged a political campaign photoshoot and released the materials online to gauge responses.

He expressed surprise that many Ghanaians fell for the prank, noting that the posters contained an obvious flaw.

He pointed out that political candidates are required to reveal their full faces in posters, but he wore shades, making him appear less “serious.”

Edem disclosed that he wasn’t even in Ghana when the first poster featuring the NPP colors was shared, as he was in Memphis for a show. However, the reactions took him by surprise—some NPP figures encouraged him to join their ranks, while some NDC members criticized him.

The experiment took another twist when the poster was reversed to favor the NDC, and the reactions also flipped accordingly.

Reflecting on the experience, Edem said he learned that in politics, criticism often comes when people feel they are losing someone valuable to the opposition.

One key observation from the experiment, he noted, was that the NPP poster gained significantly more traction than the NDC’s. While unsure of the exact reasons, he suggested that posting the NPP poster first might have given it an edge in momentum.

Beyond the experiment, Edem acknowledged that the stunt sparked serious conversations, with many urging him to consider a leadership role.

However, it also strained some friendships, as some close associates sent him hostile messages over his perceived political affiliations.
