Notably, there will be uncontested races in 5 out of the 41 constituencies, with prominent figures such as Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum of the Bosomtwe constituency and Deputy Finance Minister Dr. John Kumah of Ejisu running unopposed.
The electoral landscape in the Ashanti Region is marked by 8 identified hotspots, and one such battleground is the Bantama Constituency. Here, incumbent Minister of Works and Housing, Asenso Boakye, faces a challenge from Ralph Agyapong, the brother of Kennedy Agyapong, who secured the second position in the recent NPP presidential primary that saw Vice President Dr. Bawumia emerge as the party’s flagbearer.

Looking ahead to the 2024 general elections, the Ashanti Region is set to play a pivotal role in both the presidential and parliamentary contests. At the parliamentary level, there are 47 seats up for grabs, with the NPP holding 42, the NDC securing 4, and 1 seat held by an independent candidate. The previous elections saw the NPP losing 2 seats, one to the major opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC) and another to an NPP candidate who chose to run independently.
As the political landscape unfolds, all eyes will be on the Ashanti Region, anticipating the outcomes of the NPP Parliamentary Primaries and the general elections, as these events will undoubtedly shape the political trajectory of the region and the nation as a whole.
