Gospel singer, Jak Alolome has revealed that he declined a proposal from the New Patriotic Party, even after they offered him a substantial amount of money.
He made this statement after releasing a campaign song for the National Democratic Congress ahead of the December 7 elections.
In a recent interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning show, the singer responded to a question of why he composed a song for the NDC, attesting that his decision was on business basis as he is a businessman who is concerned about the well-being of other citizens.
His care for the welfare of the ordinary Ghanaian led him to refuse an amount offered by leaders of the NPP and instead join the NDC to support their campaign against the incumbent government
“Last year, they held my hand and took me to the NPP camp and offered a huge amount of money to join their campaign team, but I declined because the economy is hard now. I’m a businessman, and that’s because the welfare of many people is my concern. I get to eat when they eat, and now those people are complaining,” he told Roselyn Felli.
Mr. Alolome did not specify the amount, but he believes the NPP government is exploiting Ghanaians for their personal gains. This is the reason he has joined the NDC to help champion their efforts to prevent the NPP from retaining power.
In an earlier interview on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z hosted by Kwame Dadzie, the musician mentioned that his decision to do the campaign song for the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Mahama, is not monetary.
He indicated that he did the song ‘JM Begye Yen’ out of his free will to support the vision of Mahama. But he noted that he wouldn’t reject any form of appreciation that comes with the release of the song.
Comparing the NDC regime to the Akufo-Addo-led administration, Jak Alolome said things have become harder since the NPP assumed power for the eight years in governance.
“Nana Addo told us that Mahama’s administration was bad and he (Nana Addo) was going to bring us a better economy to make us comfortable. So, we voted Mahama out. But since he came into power, the petrol I buy compared to Mahama’s time is very bad. If I’m to weigh the works of Mahama and Nana Addo’s government as Dr. Bawumia is to take over, then Mahama has to come.”
Other musicians who have over the years composed songs for the NDC are Nacee, Wayoosi, Mr. Beautiful, and Jewel Ackah, among others.
Also, musicians including Daddy Lumba, Omane Acheampong, Ofori Amponsah, and Diana Asamoah, among others, have composed songs for the NPP.
