Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer

Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) does not have anything to say about President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government, so all they do is lie to Ghanaians.

According to the politician, the allegations being peddled by the NDC about the energy sector are completely false.

“At the time the consortium was taking place they were participating in the bid. When Millennium Development Authority (MiDA) was managing the power sector in their government was the family and friends of Nana Addo participating in the bid?

“Let’s get serious, they said we don’t have the capacity and expertise, how? Meralco that is the leading party in the consortium they are a power producer in the Philippines. We have one distribution company in Ghana which is Electricity Company of Ghana, so what do they mean by they (PDS) do not have expertise or knowledge in power distribution when these two organisations are merged,” he noted.

Speaking on Adom TV’s morning show, Badwam, he said there was nothing fishy about the collaboration.

“I can tell you with authority that this collaboration is legit. We have records to prove that this company started bidding at the time MiDA was in charge in their time of governance. So if the NDC is saying the New Patriotic Party is managing PDS under the president’s watch then they are entitled to that claim, but as long as I know it a legit collaboration,” he stated.

He added that there is no nepotism in the energy sector, all the incumbent government is doing is to maintain a stable power distribution in the country.

“If they have information on anyone appointing family and friends let them bring it out and let’s interrogate it.  Anyone on the street can be appointed as a director for an organisation if they feel the person has the wisdom to help the organisation grow, they can be removed at any time and new people can be added at any time. So if they say because of some directors we are practising nepotism then it’s a shame,” he stated.
