NPP, NDC supporters clash at Akufo-Addo’s residence

But for the timely intervention of the Nima police, it could have been bloody as supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) clashed at the residence of NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.

This was after participants of an NDC sponsored health walk allege that the personal security detail of the NPP presidential candidate fired multiple shots at the sight of the crowd.

But the security detail at the residence of the NPP flagbearer told the media supporters of the NDC who were taking part in the health walk started throwing stones into the residence of Akufo-Addo.

They then pelted stones and broken bottles into the house causing some damage.

Police officers from the Nima police station which is a block away from the residence of the opposition politician intervened to ward off the attack.

Joy News’ Beatrice Adu who reported from the residence says the police have called for reinforcement.

Supporters of the New Patriotic Party have started gathering at the Nima residence of the flagbearer of their party.

Beatrice reported that some of the NPP supporters booed the police for looking on whilst the NDC supporters defaced posters of the NPP Presidential candidate on the wall of the house.

“I was at home when I had a call from my colleague that some NDC guys were throwing stones into our Flagbearer’s house so I rushed here..we are ready, we will not allow them to come and mess up our flagbearer’s house,” one NPP supporter told Joy News Beatrice Adu.

One NDC supporter told Beatrice there were gun shots in the ensuing confusion.

The timely intervention of Police officers from the Nima Police station prevented the clashes from turning bloody.
