A member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Kumah, has condemned the attack on a journalist by one of its loyalists, Hajia Fati.
The NPP apologist slapped a Multimedia journalist, Ohemaa Sakyiwaa Ahwenepa at the party’s headquarters a day after Ghana hosted World Press Freedom Day.

The journalist, with popular local radio station, Adom FM was taking a photo of the vociferous woman whose refusal for a party member to pick nomination forms was causing a scene.
Hajia Fati later claimed she thought the journalist was an onion seller.
But on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, Monday, Chief Executive Officer of National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan, John Kumah described the assault as unfortunate.

He said the ruling NPP as a democratic party will not support any attack on journalists or an individual anywhere across the country.
In John Kumah’s view, there are hot-headed people in every party and Hajia Fati is no exception, thus should be forgiven.

He bemoaned the incessant attacks on journalists in recent days which in his opinion points to an impunity that threatens Ghana’s democratic credentials.
“We cannot justify anything but its not the NPP’s position to assault journalists. We will never support that”, he added.
In spite of Mr John Kumah’s condemnations, the party is yet to officially respond or issue a statement on the conduct of its member.
