NPP Loyal Ladies call for greater attention to mental health care

Loyal Ladies, a female wing of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling on all Ghanaians to give depression the needed attention it deserves.

Making the call at a seminar organized by the Group as part of its one-year anniversary celebrations, the President of the association, Ms. Perpetual Lomokie Akwanda explained that, everyone is susceptible to depression which takes a lot of time and efforts to deal with it.

“Depression can exist in anyone, anywhere. It is not a condition an individual that you can get over in an hour or even few in days. Though treatable, it can last for weeks and perhaps, years,” she said.

She, therefore, called for greater social cohesion, unity, and love to deal with depression.

“As a youth organization, it has become imperative that we bring this national issue to the forefront and lead the conversation to find a lasting solution to this national problem,” she advised.

The NPP Loyal Ladies is an all-female volunteer group under the youth wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The group is committed to encouraging female participation in politics through advocacy.

As the Group marks its one year anniversary, which coincides with International Women’s Day, it hopes that women will build their capacities in order to become effective tools for social change.

This is in line with the theme for the Anniversary: “Be Bold for Change”.

Speakers at the seminar included Rev. Francis Sey, Glory Temple of Foursquare; Ms. Mary Ampomah, Clinical psychologist, and lecturer; Gladstone Agbakpe, clinical psychologist, and lecturer; Dr. Jacqui Barnes, Resident Medical Doctor, Graphic Communications Group; Dr. Becky Appiah who represented the group’s founder Kwabena Appiah (Vyrus) and Kofi Ofosu, CEO, Accra Digital Center.
