Some leading members of the National Democratic Congress in the Ashanti Region have tugged Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh over a comment he made.
In a Press Briefing today, Tuesday, October 29th, October 2024, held in Kumasi, the Democrats took time to explain what they consider unfortunate and ethnocentric from the running mate’s recent speech.
During the media engagement, a former security coordinator under the NDC administration, Mr. Enoch Amoako Nsiah criticized Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo. He accused him of lacking an understanding of the Ashanti history.
Mr. Nsiah contends that Dr. Opoku Prempeh, who was raised within the traditional Ashanti setting, should have a deeper appreciation of the region’s cultural and historical legacy, especially within the political landscape.
A former security coordinator in the Ashanti region under the NDC administration, Enoch Amoako Nsiah, says the dignity and honour of the people of Ashanti have been tainted by the NPP.
He criticized NPP presidential running mate, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh for allegedly asserting that any Ashanti who votes for the NDC in the upcoming general elections is cursed.
Enoch Amoako argued that such comments should be disregarded as voters in the region focus on more pressing concerns than political allegiances.
Speaking at a press conference, he stated that a deeper appreciation of the region’s cultural and historical legacy, especially within the political landscape, should not warrant divisive comments.
“Today, we Asante are scared each time Napo mounts the podiums because the mess he will make affects us all. We have become enemies to many because of his derogatory comments. As a person being trained by the customs and traditions of Asante, he should have at least known how to communicate, but that’s not what’s happening, so I guess he didn’t learn his history and culture at all,” said the security expert.
Enoch challenged the NPP’s development record in the region, stating that the NPP cannot boast of significant projects in Ashanti.
He says a successful NDC government will work to ease the burden on business owners by addressing tax-related challenges impeding their operations.
“Napo can today tell us if the NPP give us Asantes T-Shirt, we will vote for them because they know they have not done anything for Asanteman and cannot pinpoint a major project which is to their credit. They have always been deceptive with projects like Boankra in land ports and Suame Interchange, among others, knowing fully well they can not complete them. The Golden Stool deserves better, but the NPP has taken us for granted, ” he opined.
