The Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracle Aboagye, has condemned has fought off assertions that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed in tackling galamsey.
According to him, the NPP government has done everything within its power to fight the menace.
“We have done everything we need to do in fighting galamsey. We have lost elections because of decisions on galamsey. So nobody can downplay the efforts of Akufo-Addo; whoever does that is being dishonest because the evidence is there to show,” he stated.
President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, over the weekend, expressed serious concerns over President Nana Akufo-Addo’s unfulfilled promise to tackle galamsey.
Speaking at the 28th GJA Awards and the association’s 75th-anniversary celebration in Accra, Mr Dwumfour lamented the devastating impact of galamsey on Ghana’s environment and water bodies.
But in an interview on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Mr Aboagye said the fight against galamsey has failed due to politicisation.
Stressing the need for collective efforts, he accused the National Democratic Congress(NDC) of sabotaging the Akufo-Addo led government’s efforts.
Mr Aboagye noted that the NDC has made some declarations which endorses galamsey and has embolden the people involved.
“The NDC has created the impression that galamsey is an NPP thing but we need to stop the politicisation. One of the reasons we are struggling is because of the NDC and they could not fight galamsey because their posture clearly shows they support it,” he stated.
