NPP dismisses Felix Kwakye Ofosu’s “scanty and defensive” comments on flight ‘scandal’

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken a swipe at the Deputy Information Minister, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, describing his comments on the two foreign aircraft in Ghana as “scanty and defensive.”

The party criticized the Minister’s remarks following questions surrounding the operations of AirMed flight N823AM and the Cavok Air Antonov An-12B, both of which recently developed mechanical faults while in the country.

According to the NPP, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu’s explanation failed to meet public expectations and only fueled further suspicion.

“Instead of providing clarity, the minister’s comments deepened the mystery surrounding the aircrafts and gave the impression of a cover-up,” the party said.

It warned the government against politicizing what it described as legitimate public concerns about national security, transparency, and the fight against organized crime.

“These are not issues that should be brushed off with political rhetoric,” the NPP stated, urging the government to take concerns raised by the public seriously and respond with factual, evidence-based communication.

The party further stated that the implications of the issue extend beyond Ghana’s borders.

“International interest and Ghana’s credibility and compliance with international obligations are at stake. The international community is observing closely, and Ghana cannot afford the perception of complicity or institutional failure in confronting transnational crime because of the intolerance and lack of openness of the John Mahama administration.”

The NPP stressed that it will not relent in holding the government accountable and urged a more professional and transparent response from state institutions.
