The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has dismissed allegations that it is plotting with some elements in the military to rig the 2024 election.
The NDC’s National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, at a news conference on Tuesday, said the party would petition the Inspector General of Police over their concerns about a potential plot to steal the people’s mandate in this election.
In response to these allegations, the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, Haruna Mohammed, said the claims by the NDC are false.
He insisted that the NDC is clutching at straws.
“The NDC clearly admits that they are losing the election, and they are finding every straw to hold on to, so they can tell their supporters that this is the reason they lost. In 2016 and 2020, they made similar statements about us training people in places to rig the election, and yet they lost,” he said.
According to him, the NPP is not interested in such gimmicks but is focused on winning the 2024 election.
“What we do know is that the military is not the Electoral Commission. I am not surprised that he came out to make this particular statement. It was completely a waste of Ghanaians’ time.”
“The elections are won at the polling stations, so if they are so much interested in playing the game, they should go down to the grassroots and make sure they get their vote. I am very confident that the NPP is going to win the election, no matter the lies and propaganda put out there,” he added.
