NPP denies Kandahar Boys’ attack on Ghana Highways story

-

Northern Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have debunked media reports that some members of the party raided the offices of the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) on Tuesday.

The executives described the reports as completely false, misleading and a deliberate attempt by some faceless persons to unnecessarily incite the public against the group (Kandahar Boys).

The angry members of the NPP on Tuesday raided the offices of the Ghana Highways Authority accusing officials of the Authority of awarding contracts to their opponents.

The youth who are said to belong to the vigilante group, Kandahar Boys, did not understand why the contract for the Daboya stretch of a road in the region will be awarded to a National Democratic Congress contractor.

They therefore besieged the offices of the GHA on Tuesday and scattered papers after they were told the officer in charge was not around.

Tuesday’s attack was the third, Joy News’ Northern Region correspondent Martina Bugri reported.

But the NPP executives in a statement signed by the Northern Regional Secretary of the NPP, Sulley Sambian, said they cross-checked with leaders of the group and the managers of Ghana Highway Authority who have both denied any such thing happened.

“We wish to state in clear terms that no such acts of vandalism occurred at the regional office of Ghana Highway Authority or anywhere near the precincts of the said Authority. The story should, therefore, be deservedly ignored.

“We have spoken to both the Kandahar Boys and the Regional Manager of the Ghana Highway Authority who have since denied the report”, the statement revealed.
