The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the immediate prosecution of Dery Joseph, an Electoral Commission (EC) officer arrested in the Kintampo South constituency for allegedly committing an electoral offense.
The incident, which took place at the Ampesika-Bayere polling station, involved the distribution of 15 defective ballot papers to voters.
Addressing the media on Saturday, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign, condemned the act, describing it as a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise voters supporting the NPP presidential candidate.
“This situation is deeply troubling. It is alarming that even in 2024, we see attempts by the NDC to use crude tactics to manipulate elections. The NPP demands the immediate prosecution of Joseph Dery for this deliberate act aimed at disenfranchising Ghanaian voters and denying them their fundamental right to vote,” he stated.
Mr. Aboagye commended the vigilance of NPP polling agents and party members who promptly identified the issue and reported it to the Ghana Police Service, leading to the EC officer’s arrest.
The NPP further accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of engaging in electoral manipulation, urging vigilance at all polling stations to prevent similar occurrences.
“The NDC must cease these crude efforts to manipulate elections. We have a robust monitoring system, and anyone caught in such acts will face the full force of the law,” Mr. Aboagye added.
