NPP declares victory in Akwatia amid post-election tensions

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akwatia constituency of the Eastern Region has claimed victory in both the parliamentary and presidential elections, despite the district Electoral Commission (EC) officer fleeing the collation center due to safety concerns.

In a press conference held at the NPP’s Akwatia office, constituency chairman Nana Yaw Addo announced that results from polling stations confirm their candidate, Ernest Yaw Kumi, as the winner of the parliamentary race.

He also asserted that, the party’s success in the presidential election in the constituency.

According to Mr. Addo, the EC district chairperson was unable to officially declare the results due to fears of potential violence from supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The EC official reportedly left the collation center under heavy military escort.

Mr. Addo called for calm among NPP supporters, urging them to remain peaceful while the party works to ensure Ernest Yaw Kumi is formally declared the MP-elect for Akwatia.

Some party members present at the press conference also appealed to NDC supporters to accept defeat and allow the EC to perform its duties without hindrance.

Tensions remain high in the constituency as stakeholders await the official declaration of results.
