Contrary to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) position that an executive member must remain neutral to enhance fairness for all who want to contest the upcoming April 25 parliamentary primaries, the NPP chairman and a member of the Election Committee of the Ablekuma Central constituency and his executives, have picked forms for the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Ebenezer Nartey.
Some of the people who were at the party’s constituency office were executives, coordinators and polling station officers.
Speaking to the media after picking the forms, party chairman, Frank Debrah, said he decided to pick the forms for the MP to contest again because he had an “unfinished business” at Ablekuma Central.
When quizzed on why he, as a constituency chairperson who is supposed to be neutral is taking that step, Mr Debrah explained the rationale behind the decision, saying the work of the MP is felt at every electoral area and the move was to assure him of their support.
The constituency chair told Adom News that the filing fee was a contribution by some persons at Abossey Okai who want the MP to continue the good work that he is doing for the people of the area.
He added that anyone, who is interested in contesting Mr Nartey, should feel free to pick the forms and contest.
Meanwhile, the MP, who received the forms and filed, expressed gratitude to the executives.
He called for support to ensure victory in December.
On his part, the party secretary, Habib Abubakar urged all who are also interested to pick the forms and allow the poll on April 25, to decide.
He added that so far only the incumbent MP had picked and filed to contest the primary at the constituency but was optimistic others would also go and pick.
