The Acting Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, has embarked on a nationwide tour of fuel installations to assess their operations and offer regulatory support.

The visits aimed to provide him with first-hand insights into ongoing activities, prospects, and challenges within the petroleum sector to enhance regulatory direction.

He was accompanied by Deputy Chief Executive Dr. Sheila Addo and other senior management officials of the Authority.

The tour began at Ghana Petroleum Mooring Systems Limited (GPMS), where the team was taken offshore and briefed on the berthing of fuel vessels and the discharge of fuel through pipelines to terminals.

They also visited Ghana Bunkering Services Limited, where they observed fuel transfer processes into tankers for onward distribution to oil marketing companies.

The team proceeded to Sentuo Oil Refinery Company Limited and the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).

At Sentuo Oil Refinery, Tameklo reaffirmed the NPA’s commitment to supporting the completion of the refinery’s second phase, which aims to increase refining capacity from 40,000 to 100,000 barrels per day. He also encouraged Sentuo’s management to engage more Ghanaian professionals, particularly petrochemical engineering students and technical experts, to facilitate technology transfer.

During his visit to TOR, Tameklo emphasized the importance of reviving the refinery to process crude oil locally, reducing dependence on imported refined oil and easing pressure on the cedi.

TOR’s Acting Managing Director, Dr. Yusif Sulemana, assured that management is committed to restoring the refinery’s operations to fulfill its mandate.
