Executive Director of the Institute for Education Studies (IFES), Dr. Peter Partey Anti, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to expedite the nomination of an Education Minister to tackle the pressing issues in the education sector.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Burning Issues with Akua Boakyewaa Yiadom, Dr. Anti expressed concern over the absence of a substantive head for the Ministry of Education amidst critical challenges in the sector.
“I was thinking the Minister of Education would be part of those earlier appointments made by President Mahama,” Dr. Anti remarked. “The earlier we get the head for the education ministry, the better. We need someone to correct the issues in the sector.”
He highlighted the urgency of addressing key concerns in the education system, emphasizing that delays in appointing a minister could stall efforts to implement much-needed reforms and policies.
“It would have been nice if this appointment had been made already… maybe within the week, it will happen, but it’s important that it happens early to take action for all of us,” he added.
Dr. Anti’s comments come amidst widespread calls from stakeholders for swift action to address the challenges facing Ghana’s education sector, including inadequate infrastructure, teacher shortages, and the effective implementation of policies like Free Senior High School.
