No player will be begged to stay at Hearts of Oak – Aboubakar Ouattara

-

Hearts of Oak head coach Aboubakar Ouattara has said the club will not beg any player to stay as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Reports indicate that, several players are looking to leave, with the club set to part ways with 17 individuals.

In response, the Ivorian coach stated that the club is focused on a long-term vision and welcomes those who wish to depart.

“Hearts of Oak is bigger than any player. If my wife said she doesn’t like me anymore, I’ll open the door for her” the gaffer said.

Ouattara emphasized the importance of building a sustainable project to ensure future success.

“Hearts of Oak was created in 1911. It took almost 90 years to win the Champions League,” he continued.

“Do you want to wait that long again for success? Our project is not just to win the league tomorrow; we want to be at the top.”

Last season, the 2020/21 league champions finished in the lower half of the table.

After losing the inaugural Democracy Cup to Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak will look for redemption in the Gbese Mantse Homowo Peace Charity Cup against Heart of Lions.

To strengthen their squad for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, Hearts of Oak has signed goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, Samuel Amofa, and former Nations FC players Asamoah Boateng Afriyie and Michael Awuah Mensah.
