The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has rubbished claims that the Ghanaian market is inundated with plastic rice, contrary to assertions on social media.
Following the circulation of videos on social media platforms claiming the existence of plastic rice in the country, the FDA conducted laboratory tests to ascertain the veracity of the claim.
But the result of the tests, according to the FDA, proves there is no plastic rice on the Ghanaian market.
Addressing a press conference Friday, the CEO of the FDA, Mimi Darko noted the tests proved the supposed plastic rice were authentic rice with higher starchy content.
She said “there is currently no plastic rice on the market” and the FDA is monitoring the situation in partnership with the international community.
