No one should lose a strand of hair because of elections – Dr Quaicoe

The Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Serebour Quaicoe, has called for peaceful behaviour among electorates as the country prepares for the general election in December.

Speaking at a forum on Friday, August 9, Dr Quaicoe emphasised that no one should suffer harm over election-related disputes.

According to him, behind the public disagreements between the two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), its executives share an enviable comradeship.

“One thing I like about the NDC and NPP, in the public view, they will portray that they are enemies but when they are done, they are the best of friends,” he said on Friday.

On the back of this, the Director of Electoral Services as the EC advised voters not to take political rivalries too seriously, noting that after public arguments, party members often socialise together amicably.

“I always tell the electorates that don’t look at them and fight because when they finish [arguing publicly], they go somewhere and have lunch over some bottles and you will have your injuries to attend to,” Dr. Quaicoe added.

He stressed the importance of maintaining peace during the electoral process, urging the public not to engage in conflicts over political differences.

“Under no circumstance should anyone lose a strand of hair because of elections,” he stated.
