Member of Parliament for Effia in the Western Region, Isaac Boamoah-Nyarko, says the Minority is demanding decisive action from President John Mahama over the conduct of the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi—not because they believe he is a thief, but because they want the right standards upheld in public office.
Sammy Gyamfi came under fire after a video surfaced showing him handing out large amounts of US dollars to self-styled evangelist Patricia Koranteng, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
The video sparked public outrage and widespread condemnation. Following the backlash, Sammy Gyamfi issued an apology for his actions.
While critics have described the act as reckless and inappropriate, Mr. Boamoah-Nyarko clarified that the Minority is not out to smear Sammy Gyamfi’s character, but rather to ensure accountability and adherence to proper conduct in government.
“No one is saying Sammy Gyamfi is a thief, but if a government appointee is not doing the right thing, we have to speak up—for the betterment of the country” ,” the Effia MP said during an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show.
He stated that public officials must abide by the President’s code of conduct, especially in managing public resources and upholding ethical standards.
“We want to hold the government accountable and responsible. Why did he [Sammy Gyamfi] apologise if nothing was wrong? Clearly, he knows his actions were not appropriate” he stressed.
Mr. Boamoah-Nyarko added that their stance is not driven by personal vendetta or political pain.
“No one is pained about anyone. We are simply insisting on doing the right thing.”
He concluded by urging the President to take firm steps to reinforce discipline and ethical behavior among his appointees.
