No injunction on Asawase elections – NPP

The Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will hold its primary in the Asawase constituency despite a court injunction.

According to the Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, the party has not been served with the injunction, thus, the election will go on as planned.

His comment comes after an aggrieved aspirant secured an interim injunction from the Kumasi High Court.

Manaf Ibrahim is accusing the party executives of bias and scheming to make Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong, Alidu Seidu as sole candidate for Saturday’s Extraordinary Delegates Conference.

But, the NPP Ashanti Region Chairman on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Friday said Mr Ibrahim has no locus to place an injunction on the elections.

He explained that, the party’s disciplinary committee has suspended him [Manaf] indefinitely, therefore, he cannot hold them to ransom.

Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Chairman Wontumi as he is popularly called, said all is set for the elections and he can guarantee it will be very peaceful.

He disclosed that after thorough and exhaustive deliberations, the Regional Executive Committee resolved that the three Orphan Constituencies in the region shall sponsor the candidatures of Hon. Alidu Seidu, MCE- Asokore Mampong, Hon. Salisu Bamba, MCE – Ejura Sekyeredumasi and Hon. Joseph Owusu, District Chief Executive – Sekyere Afram Plains as sole candidates for the Asawase, Ejura Sekyeredumasi and Sekyere Afram Plains respectively.

“We won’t allow anyone possessed by evil spirits to spoil our elections,” he said.
