The National Liberation Congress (NLC) and the Ghana Alternative Party (GAP) have officially announced their withdrawal from the upcoming December 7th elections.
This decision was reached during an emergency meeting held on September 11th, chaired by Osahene Nana Agyei Boateng, the founder and leader of GAP.
Initially, the alliance between NLC and GAP had planned to present Stephen Atubiga as an independent candidate.
However, due to delays in the NLC’s certification process by the Electoral Commission (EC) and insufficient time to register a new alliance logo, the parties opted to pull out of the race.
Their decision was further influenced by voter feedback, which suggested that supporting an independent candidate would likely be futile amidst the strong contest between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Additionally, the prevailing economic challenges have led many to believe that only the major parties are capable of governing effectively.
The alliance also reflected on the potential of a unified third force, comprising independent candidates and smaller parties, but noted that the lack of cohesion among these groups had caused skepticism among voters.
Despite withdrawing, the NLC and GAP alliance remain dedicated to their vision and manifesto, and they plan to support any party that embraces their ideals for the betterment of the country.
