The long-abandoned underpass in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region has been cleaned and drained, much to the relief and joy of residents.
For years, the underpass had been a source of frustration, often filled with stagnant water and debris, creating an unsightly and hazardous environment.
However, recent efforts led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Joseph Antwi Awal, have brought renewed hope to the municipal capital.
The MCE, who has been actively engaging in various developmental initiatives in the area, organized a comprehensive clean-up campaign aimed at restoring the underpass to its former state.
This initiative not only addressed immediate concerns such as flooding and waste accumulation but also underscored the importance of maintaining public infrastructure for the benefit of all residents.
Speaking with Adom News, residents expressed their gratitude to the MCE for taking decisive action after years of neglect.
Many shared their experiences of navigating the underpass, which had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other pests, posing serious health risks to the community.
The clean-up has not only improved the area’s aesthetic appeal but is also expected to enhance safety for pedestrians, especially schoolchildren.
In response, the MCE emphasized the importance of community involvement in maintaining public spaces.
He urged residents to work together to ensure that the infrastructure remains functional and well-maintained.
Mr. Awal encouraged residents to take pride in their surroundings and report any issues they encounter, adding that community ownership is essential to sustaining such improvements.
As the Nkwanta underpass stands revitalized, it serves as a testament to the power of community action and effective leadership.
The MCE’s commitment to addressing long-standing issues has not only improved the quality of life for residents but has also fostered a sense of unity and pride within the community.
