In a significant event aimed at enhancing the educational infrastructure in Nkwanta South of the Oti Region, the outgoing Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Felix Owusu-Gyimah, has called for effective collaboration between parents, students and educators to uplift the standard of education in the area.
This call to action came when he handed over an additional 1,500 dual desks to the Education Service (GES), under the Gulf of Guinea Northern Region Social Cohesion Project (SOCO), a significant contribution towards improving learning conditions for students.
Speaking in the short ceremony, Mr Owusu-Gyimah highlighted the importance of a united front in addressing the challenges facing the education sector.
He noted that, while the provision of physical resources like desks is essential, the involvement of parents in their children’s education is equally vital.
The MCE stated that coming into office in the last four months, one of the major challenges facing schools was furniture deficit of 6,000 and efforts and support from the assembly and SOCO project has provided over 5,000 dual and mono desks bridging the deficit.
According to him, promoting quality education in the municipality is a shared responsibility and when parents and teachers work together, can create an environment that will foster academic excellence and holistic development for children.
The MCE further explained that the dual desks, which are designed to accommodate two students, will significantly alleviate the issues of furniture deficit in classrooms, allowing for more conducive learning atmosphere.
He expressed gratitude to the Gulf of Guinea Northern Region Social Cohesion (SOCO) project for their ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure and urged the beneficiaries GES, to ensure that the desks are distributed equitably and maintain among schools in the municipality.
In his remarks, the Municipal Education Director, Jonathan Korsinah, praised the outgoing Mr Owusu-Gyimah, for his exceptional leadership, despite his brief tenure in office.
The Director of Education highlighted the MCE’s commitment to educational development, noting the positive impact of his initiatives on education.
“We wish you stay on to continue with your vision towards schools improvement,” he said.
