As part of efforts towards improving maternal healthcare in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, the assembly has commissioned a new 7-bed maternity facility at Keri.
The initiative under the Gulf of Guinea Northern Region Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project, aims to enhance the quality of care provided to expectant mothers in the area, ensuring safer deliveries and better health outcomes for both mothers and their newborns.
The commissioning ceremony, attended by various stakeholders, including the Oti Regional Minister DSP (Rtd) Daniel Machator, health officials, community leaders and residents, highlighted the importance of access to healthcare facilities in the community.
The new maternity facility has been equipped with modern amenities water storage facility and is ready to cater to the needs of the community.
Speaking at the event, DSP(Rtd) Machator urged residents to take full advantage of the facility, emphasizing the importance of maternal healthcare in community development.
He noted that the facility at Keri will enhance maternal and childbirth services in the area, ensuring expectant mothers have access to quality during childbirth.

Assemblywoman for the area Juliana Awasan commended the government for its efforts in improving healthcare in the area.
She highlighted the positive impact the facility will have on reducing maternal mortality rates and improving overall health outcomes in the area.
The assemblywoman also appealed for additional facilities to upgrade the CHPS compound to a polyclinic to meet the health demands of the people.
Nana Owusu Philip of Challa and Okpora Francis Okyeame of Akyode both commended the government for its commitment to improving the healthcare infrastructure.
They stressed the importance of such facilities in reducing maternal mortality rates and providing a safe environment for childbirth.
In addition to celebrating the new maternity ward, Okyeame Francis Okpora and Nana Owusu to the opportunity to appeal for urgent improvements in road infrastructure leading to Keri and other communities.
They underscored that better roads would not only facilitate easier access to the maternity facility but also enhance the overall healthcare delivery in the area.
