Nkwanta conflict: Adele queens, women appeal to gov’t for immediate resolution

-

The Adele Traditional Queens and women have appealed to the government to take immediate and decisive steps to resolve the ongoing conflict in the NKwanta Municipality of the Oti Region.

Nkwanta conflict, which has escalated over the past three years, has led to significant unrest among the three main ethnic groups in the area: the Adele, Akyode and Challa.

The Queen mothers emphasize that war brings only pain, especially for women and children, who suffer the most during such times.

Speaking at a press conference, they acknowledged the impact of the conflict on women, who are vital to their families and communities, primarily through trading and supporting household needs.

With farming and trading stalled, prices for food and goods have skyrocketed, exacerbating poverty as women who used to trade freely are now afraid to travel between markets due to violence, while curfews restrict their nighttime activities.

They also raised concerns about healthcare delivery as people face difficulties accessing hospitals.

The queens expressed concern for women who have been displaced from their homes and the mistrust that has arisen among families and communities.

They urged the government to act swiftly in resolving this conflict for the sake of their community’s future.

The queens also requested that the government institute a fact-finding committee to help resolve the issues as they know that the three chieftains, Adele, Akyode and Challa know their respective boundaries.

They also appealed to the security agencies to intensify their patrols at night to eliminate the fear that women and children continue to experience while urging the security network and the police in Nkwanta and the NIB to intensify their investigations.

The Adele queens further made a special appeal to Vice President Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang, as a mother to take a keen interest in the situation and speak on their behalf.
