Actor Nii Nortey, often recognized for his diminutive stature, has candidly shared his frustration about being pigeonholed into demonic and dwarf roles.
While these roles have provided him with some visibility, Nii feels his versatility as an actor is being overshadowed by his physical appearance.
In an interview on TV3’s New Day, Nii Nortey passionately expressed his desire to showcase his talent in a broader range of roles.
Despite the typecasting, he remains hopeful and is praying for the strength to stand up to producers and demand better opportunities.
The challenge, however, is not just personal as Nii Nortey pointed out that many of his colleagues with similar conditions seem content with these roles, which makes rallying for change a battle.
“All my colleagues with the same condition seem to be enjoying the roles, so no one is rallying to speak up. I can’t champion the cause alone unless all my diminutive colleagues agree to convince directors to give us better roles,” he said.
“It’s not going to be easy; we stand to lose our jobs, but I believe it is enough time to say what we are really harboring.”
He dreams of a day when his talent will be recognized for what it truly is, beyond the limitations imposed by his physical appearance.
