Angry workers have shut down Nigeria’s largest airline, Arik Air, accusing the management of failing to reinstate sacked colleagues, local media report.
The Nigerian government announced a takeover of the airline last month to prevent it going bust.
But the main union representing aviation workers has accused the new management of intolerance to unionism, Nigeria’s Premium Times reported.
The government agency – Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, now responsible for supervising the cash-strapped airline – said the decision was made to “instill sanity in the country’s aviation sector and to prevent a major catastrophe.”
