Nigeria Ambassador’s wife to pay fine for 7 prison inmates

Wife of Nigeria Ambassador to Ghana, Margret Abikoye has promised to pay fines for seven inmates at Nsawam prisons.

Mrs. Abikoye told Adom News the gesture is to enable the seven inmates reunite with their families.

Fine of the 7 inmates ranges from GCH360 -720.

She disclose this when she was accompanied by Spouse of Diplomats, Nigerian Women in Ghana and Nigerian Union of Traders Association(NUTAG) to donate some items worth over GHC30,000 to the inmates.

The items include: bags rice, sowing machines, bags of beans, slippers, gallons of cooking oil, 100 tubers of yam, toilet rolls and many more.

Deputy Director of Prisons who is also second in Command at Nsawam Prisons, Owusu-Amponsah expressed his gratitude to Margret Abikoye for her kind gesture.

Mr Amponsah explained that, if the fine is paid in court, the inmates will be given discharge warrant before they will be released.

He said the food in stock is not enough for the over 3,500 inmates who eat 21 bags of rice a day.

Mr. Amponsah also appealed to government to increased feeding fees for inmates from GHC1.80-GHC 5.

He cited how among other things the prison lucks ambulance to transport inmates to the hospital to big ones for medical care and are sometimes put at the back of pick-ups to their referral centers to buttress his point.

Mr. Owusu-Amponsah also appealed to corporate bodies and private individuals to come to their aid,

The Deputy Director of Prisons Owusu-Amponsah pleaded with government to get them ambulance.
