The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has commended President John Mahama’s decision to uncap the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) levy.
In a statement, NHIA said that the proposal was “a significant turning point in the scheme’s history and will contribute significantly to achieving universal health coverage for the country.”
The statement further praised the NDC government for demonstrating its commitment to “strengthening Ghana’s healthcare system and ensuring sustainable funding for the NHIS.”
Speaking at the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, the President promised to uncap the NHIS levy in the upcoming budget.
This, he noted, will seek to improve healthcare access across Ghana.
“We are determined to prioritize healthcare to ensure that every Ghanaian, regardless of their location or economic standing, has access to quality medical services,” he added.
