Next NDC government will create responsible, youth-inclusive mining – Omane Boamah

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has revealed plans to reshape Ghana’s small-scale mining sector under the leadership of its flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

According to the party’s Director of Elections and IT, Edward Omane Boamah, Mr. Mahama intends to prioritize environmentally sustainable and youth-inclusive innovations in the industry if elected president.

Speaking in Akwatia, a prominent mining town in the Eastern Region, Dr. Omane Boamah outlined the NDC’s proposed Youth-In-Mining Initiative.

This program aims to modernize small-scale mining by improving regulatory processes, protecting the environment, and driving economic growth.

With a focus on simplifying procedures for small-scale miners, the initiative promises to decentralize licensing and regulatory requirements to make compliance easier and more accessible.

To support miners further, Dr. Omane Boamah revealed that a new board would be created specifically to oversee the sector, and a revolving fund would be established to provide financial assistance.

This fund aims to empower small-scale miners with resources for sustainable operations, enhancing long-term economic benefits for Ghana’s mining communities.
