Newmont farmers say they were ignorant over compensation agreement [Audio]

Farmers who staged a demonstration against Newmont Akyem Mines for a new compensation package following the takeover of their farmlands say they did not understand the previous compensation agreement.

The Farmers have been agitating over the past three (3) years for a new package.

They demonstrated Tuesday and clashed with the police leading to the injury of seven people.

The spokesperson for the farmers, Ntiamoah Denkyira, speaking to Adom News explained that they did not understand the initial compensation package agreement.

He said they took the case to court but had a different interpretation, a situation they say forced them to demand a better package since they believe they were cheated.

Ntiamaoh Dankyira added that they were ready to refund the initial compensation the company has given for a new one to be made.
