Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, John Peter Amewu, says a team would be put together to investigate the accident at the Newmont’s Ahafo Mine that claimed six lives and injured two others.
Six employees of Consar Limited, a construction firm contracted to work on the firm’s mill expansion project were killed after a reclaim tunnel roof collapsed on them on Saturday.
Two others who escaped the accident have been treated and discharged at a local clinic.
John Peter Amewu who is on a fact-finding mission to the scene of the incident says the Minerals Commission has been tasked to conduct preliminary investigations into the accident.

Mr. Amewu who spoke well of Newmont Ghana and mining firms in Ghana generally for maintaining high safety standards says the investigations will inform the ministry about the next line of action to take.
According to him, the visit is also to commiserate with bereaved families, Newmont Ghana and Consar Limited.
He was speaking in an interview with Joy News’ Ernest Kwadwo Manu.
