The new price of sachet water announced by the National Association of Sachet and Packed Water Producers (NASPAWAP) early this week has been rejected by some sachet water sellers in Mamfe-Akuapem.
The new stated price is from GH¢0.20 to GH¢0.30.
Speaking to Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Mamfe, Ms Mavis Oklo, a 47 year old sachet water seller, said she has been in the business for about 24 years and anytime there is an increase in prices, market becomes slow so she is not going to agree to the new price and would continue to sell it at the old price of one sachet for GH¢0.20 and two sachets for GH¢0.30.
She said on a normal market day, she could sell four to six packs of water but after the announcement of the new price which is yet to come into effect, sales reduced to one and a half pack of water a day so she decided not to conform to the new price to keep her market.
She said by going round shouting the old price, she was able to sell about 270 sachets.
The seller told GNA that she has been selling sachet water to provide food for her family of seven after the death of her husband.
Ms Oklo said through the business, she has been able to send her daughter Abigail Oklo for training as a seamstress.
Mr Edmond Oklahoma, a customer who buys about three packs of sachet water every week from Ms Oklo, said the new price would greatly affect his weekly budget.
