The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has stated that he has never been a supporter of Accra Hearts of Oak.
There has been widely circulated rumours that the Asantehene prior to ascending the Asante throne was a supporter of the Accra-based club.
The rumours continued that Otumfuo always cheered on the rainbow boys but was forced to support Kotoko after inheriting the club as part of his properties as Asantehene.
Reacting to this rumour, the man considered as among the powerful monarchs in Africa said he has never supported Hearts of Oak.
He explained to officials and players of the team when they paid a visit to the Manhyia Palace to present trophies they won at the end of the 2016/2017 season that he was not following football entirely in his private life.“I was not following football at all until I ascended the throne. So I have been wondering why I would support Hearts of Oak when I wasn’t following football.
“Besides, why would I have supported Hearts when I was not even in Ghana…I didn’t even know the position of number 7 the field…,” he said in Twi.
The Asantehene also commended the team for winning the President’s Cup and the FA Cup.
